           New Release: Fat Gram Counter
Counting calories is out; counting grams is in. People
everywhere are dropping pounds simply by knowing which foods to
avoid--namely, those high in fat content. Some experts have gone so
far as to say, "If you cut down on your fat, you will lose weight.
It's as simple as that." Discover which foods to avoid, like
graham crackers and corn muffins, both of which contain a higher
percentage of fat than chocolate cake! Sometimes the advice is as
simple as saying, "Cut your fat in half by switching from 2% milk
to 1% milk." Find out why air-popped popcorn is better than
peanuts, why pretzels are preferable to potato chips. It's all in
__Harriet Roth's Fat _Counter, which contains over 3,000 entries,
including frozen entrees, listing the calories, grams of fat,
cholesterol, and percentage of fat, for each. Send for your
two-volume braille fat gram counter for just $6.95.

           NOTE:
The Braille Authority of North America and the International
Council on English Braille are working to unify the braille code,
which would be an extension of Grade II braille to include math,
computer, and textbook codes. Music would continue as its own code.
A few of the criteria are 1) uses a six-dot cell; 2) Grade II
braille remains readable to current readers; 3) user-friendly for
beginners and advanced readers; 4) consistent with codes used in
other English-speaking countries; and 5) braille readers will review
code before it is adopted.
As a member of BANA, we will keep you informed of new developments.

           Demand It
We recently sent out print notices to people in our database listed
as "sighted parents of blind children." One customer responded: "I
read braille only. Federal law requires that you make your
correspondence accessible to me."
Touche. It is exactly this kind of consumer-driven approach that
will make the Americans with Disabilities Act more than a piece of
paper. Many companies we talk to about making their materials
accessible tell us "no one ever asks for it." Start asking. Give
businesses--your bank, favorite restaurant, hospital, hotel--our phone
number. We now have braille desk-top printing to handle small jobs,
but only you can make the law work.
